Self Care in 2021

The first month of 2021 has already experienced some impactful events, both frightening and inspiring. We cannot predict how the rest of the year will turn out, but it’s clear we are at the precipice of global transformation. Resilience is key in being able to flow gracefully with the unexpected. Self-care plays an important role in building resilience.

According to a 2020 report from Facebook IQ, the pandemic has shifted people’s idea of self-care. It’s no longer considered a luxury, but an essential practice needed to support overall well-being. Diana Verde Nieto of Positive Luxury also highlights in the report, that self-care rituals and wellness activities help break the day up into different moments rather than the days seeming like each one runs into the next.

That’s why I’m inviting you to consider optimizing your metntal wellness this year. If you’ve already started punishing yourself with resolutions that you hope will make you a better human being, but will ultimately wear you down and leave you feeling like a failure, do yourself a favor and stop it. Stop doing things that are challenging to achieve. Don’t put that kind of pressure on yourself this year. Do things that will help you feel good and strengthen your resiliency muscles.

“But what if what used to make me feel good is no longer available because of the pandemic?” Good question! For people who’s wellness practice includes the gym, their church, group therapy, a hug (you get the idea) finding community takes some creativity when social distancing is involved. At Queen City Beauty Group we are taking our Rooted Queen Community online. More than just a skin care forum, we want to focus on heart care, soul care, and mind care. We strive to have a group of individuals that cheer each other on as we all navigate how to recharge our batteries so we can give the world our best self. We hope to create a place where strangers can feel like family and lean on each other during hard times. A safe space to ask for help, share your wisdom, and find inspiration.
